Lecture topics: Gender Diff erences in Retirement Well-Being: Evidence from Taiwan
Lecture content: This study examines the eff ects of retirement on subjective well-being in Taiwan using 2007-2022 data from the Taiwan Panel Study of Family Dynamics. Considering the potential endogeneity of retirement, we utilize the eligible age for claiming a labor retirement pension as an instrumental variable for retirement and analyze how retirement a ffects well-being by gender. Results indicate that women's life satisfaction significantly improves after retirement, while men's life satisfaction and happiness remain una ffected. The positive e ffect of retirement for women is linked to less traditional gender role attitudes and companionship from close family or nonrelatives.
